Food Slicer
A food slicer is a term generally used for a meat slicer. Another common term for such a product is "deli slicer." As these different names suggest, it is most commonly used to slice up meats and cheeses.
The first meat/food slicer was developed in Rotterdam, 1898. It was invented by a man named Wilhelm van Berkel. This model, and many other older styles, was operated by a hand crank. Newer designs will often use an electric motor.
Today, the food slicer may be used to cut many other things. Fruits and vegetables like tomatoes and onions are just a few examples. Some may also be used for slicing bread. However, there is also a specific type of equipment known as a bread slicer. It is important to evaluate exactly what your slicer is capable of before assuming what it can and cannot cut.
