Kitchen Knives

Kitchen knives, as the name suggests, are meant for the kitchen and food preparation. Most homes will have at least a general purpose blade. There are also many specialized ones for the kitchen. A chef will usually have many of these different types, often in varying sizes.

Like all blades, there are many different features of kitchen knives. Most people recognize the blade. However, there are other parts with other terms. The bolster, tang, and handle are just a few examples of this.

Bolsters are thick metal pieces which fit between the handle and the blade. The point of the bolster is to add safety and balance. Not all kitchen knives have these aspects. The tang is the part of the blade which extends through the handle. Handles are created from wood or a synthetic material.
